(AKRON, OH – January 27, 2010) Brown Mackie College – Akron President Tod Gibbs has announced that Brown Mackie College – Akron is donating its former 33,000 sq. ft. school building to Summit Academy Schools, also located in Akron.
The building, located at 2791 Mogadore Road was constructed in 1974 and remodeled and refurnished in 1980. A new wing was added in 1986. In 2007, Brown Mackie College – Akron relocated to its current site at 755 White Pond Drive.
“In the spirit of giving, we wanted to donate the building to an organization that serves a special need in our greater community,” says Gibbs.
Summit Academy Schools serves students ages 5 to 22 who have Asperger’s Syndrome, ADHD, high-functioning autism and related disorders. The first Summit Academy was founded in Akron in 1999 and now includes more than 2,000 students in 26 schools in 14 Ohio communities.
Summit Academy’s new campus will house Summit Academy Akron Middle School students in grades six, seven and eight. The new campus will also include Summit Academy Management office. The current management office is located in Copley.
